Race two of the Jersey Paddle Club series, sponsored by IQ-EQ was held on Sunday 7th August down at Ouaisne.

There were a few new faces at the race and it was good to see everyone having fun.

The SUP course was a short course, of just under 3km but with 14 turns in total and then a sprint up the beach to the finish line, it meant that it was fast paced and a very tight course.

The key element to the race was to get a good, and fast, beach start and maintain good buoy turns. Laird, Andrew and Tim T were quick off the line, giving them the clean water and the best chance of hitting that first buoy turn without any hindrance. Once paddlers had settled into a rhythm, the positions didn’t change with Laird being first over the line.

The Ski course was again a longer course making use of the whole of Ouaisne / St Brelades Bay. They had some buoy turns with some elements of upwind, downwind and side wind. There was very little swell, making it a flat water race. The ski’s used some good tactical paddling and there were some good, tight battles between the paddlers.

Well done to everyone who took part, especially the newcomers and the Juniors.

Sunday 17th July was the first race of the Jersey Paddle Club race series 2022. With temperatures due to reach 34°c during the day, the beach at St Brelades Bay was starting to get busy with swimmers and boats at the start of the race.

There was a good number of entrants across all craft (with a few not attending, most likely due to the heat forecast!) The SUP course was a tough battle with the wind that wasn’t expected to be as strong as it was. There was a kit of side chop & side wind for the duration. For thr experienced racers, with 4 laps of the course, and a beach transition run between each lap, the total distance was approximately 6.5km. For the newer paddlers they completed 1 lap of the same course, which was testing!!

The Ski race was further out of the bay, using the 5 knot marker buoys. They completed a triangular course with some upwind, downwind and sidewind conditions. The total distance of the ski race was just over 8km.

This is the first in 4 races (with your top 3 results counting towards the overall series results.
